Jan Shapiro | Studio 418
Colorful Handwoven Items
Jan Shapiro is a Boston-based oil painter known for her expressive, color-rich landscapes created with palette knives and a layered approach to mark-making. She studied at Parsons School of Design and The New School and spent years as a visual designer before returning to painting. Her work begins en plein air, capturing the shifting light and atmosphere of places like the Boston skyline, the shores of Maine, Cape Cod (including Provincetown), the Portuguese coast, and the French countryside—then evolves in the studio into larger, more developed compositions. Jan has exhibited two series at Spaulding Rehabilitation Hospital and is a member of the Cambridge Art Association, AGC at The Stove Factory, Charlestown, TAG, The Art Gallery at SOWA, and the Provincetown Art Association and Museum (PAAM).
